"Head Quarters 2d Vol. Brigade, Artillery Reserve A.[rmy] P.[otomac], Nov. 11, 1863. [to] J.T. Sprague, Adjt. Genl. S.N.Y. Sir- I have the honor to recommend 2nd Lieut. John V. Grant of the 5th N.Y. Independent Battery to be a 1st Lieutenant. I have also the honor to recommend 1st Sergeant George H. Warner of the same Battery for promotion to the rank of 2d Lieutenant. Sergt. Warner has been connected with the Battery since its original organization and has participated in the following engagements in all of which he has shown undaunted courage and patriotism and he has proved himself competent in all his duties as a soldier.
