VICTORIAN GEORGE PEABODY PRESSED GLASS DISH This Victorian pressed glass dish measures 15.75cm in diameter, the outside is embossed George Peabody and the centre a heart and crown. George Peabody was born in Davers Massechussetts USA - Later re-named PEABODY in honour of George Peabody - on 18th February 1795, he later died in London on 4th November 1869. He was a Financier, banker and Entreprener, who moved to London in 1837. There is a statute of him next to the Royal Exchange in London and near the Peabody Institute - which George Peabody founded at Mount Vernon Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He is also in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans. This piece has the diamond registration mark for 1869 and was, therefore, manufactured in memory of George Peabody at his death. In very nice condition free from any faults.
