The Gerber Freeman Hunter Fine Edge Fixed Blade Knife was named the 2003 Best of the Best by Field and Stream magazine. Hunting fanatics everyw will agree that this military grade tactical style fixed knife, similar to a bowie knife in style, is just what they want for all camping, fishing, and hunting excursions. The 3.25" blade is forged out of aus-8 stainless steel and features a full length tang to provide additional strength for the toughest of jobs. The dropped point tip makes skinning a breeze. With safety in mind, the freeman hunter incorporates several unique attributes: true finger guard, finger grooves that serve as a positive blade indexing indicators, thumb serrations allowing for additional cutting pressure and indentations on the full length tang for a sure grip. I could have bought some cheap aluminum oxide stone to put in this kit, but we all know they are junk. I went with a genuine Arkansas stone, they cost more, but they are well worth it. This is a stone you can really use. Use with oil or water. Country of Origin: USA Custom Sheath details : I hand sew these sheaths specifically for this Gerber Freeman knife. Hand sewing is far superior to machine sewing, (see my website for documentation) and I use the very strong saddle stitching method. The sheath is made from quality 7/8 oz. vegetable tanned leather. It contains a full internal welt that runs just under the entire knife. The entire sheath is made from one piece of leather, including the snap strap for the handle, no joints means a tougher, stronger product. Sheath comes with two removable straps for horizontal carry. These straps allow for belts up to 2 ½� wide. The straps are held in place by removable screws that connect to two ears on the sheath. The straps hold a separate and removable stone and fire striker pouch. The pouch is made from 4 oz. vegetable tanned leather. Yes, the type of tanning process for the leather does make a difference. Most big companies that mass produce cheap sheaths use chrome tanning, this method puts harmful chemicals into the leather which can corrode the blade when they get wet, not so with vegetable tanning. Vegetable tanned leather cost more, but I believe it is worth it. What about you?
