Superb pair of Art Deco German porcelain bathing beauty lamps measure nearly 10 inches tall by 4" wide at their bases. The lamps are 3" thick from back to front. The stunning bathing beauties, who each cuddle with adorable puppies, measure 6" tall by almost 1.75" wide each. Both lamps are in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, fleabites or damages of any kind. I do see what looks like an overspill in the molding of one of the lamps. This area is seen on the inside of the lamp only and can be felt. This area looks like a hairline, but I cannot find any evidence of it on the front side of the lamp. Also, I used a strong flashlight to see if this area was a true crack, and it did not show through the porcelain...I believe it is an overspill from the molding of the lamp. Both lamps have nice cords...possible replacements (pic. # 12)...that show no cracks, cuts or areas of stress, and both lamps work well. I see marks on the back of one of the lamps (pic. # 11)--"14026--GERMANY" and "DEP" are seen. I also see a stylized "G" with skinny lines through it...Thanks so much to the author of a book about bathing beauties who contacted me and identified the marks on the lamp as the Carl Schneider Erban factory in Germany. "DEP" or Depose tells me that the pair was made for the French market. The other lamp bears no mark, but I notice a decorator's mark--"14" on the under inside of the marked lamp. I do notice that 2 seperate decorators painted the lamps in the factory. Although a pair, the marked lamp shows a bit more experience and detail on the painter's part. Regardless, the detail on each lamp is stunning. Thanks once more to the author...visit her website--its great...who identified the subject of the pair as based on a French boudoir print by Maurice Milliere. I see a filigree blue bow at each beauty's waist (pic. # 5), and each woman's graceful profile is the epitome of the term bathing beauty (pics 6 & 10). I have never seen a bathing beauty with a dog (pic. # 3), and I believe that the figures hold a Peke perhaps (?). I notice as well that the ocean, painted in a green shade, laps the shore at the bather's feet on each lamp (pic. # 7). The lamps show so much amazing detail...tiny fingers, stylish pleated blue swimming skirts over orange suits, delicately molded legs ...The classic style columns that each bather poses in front of are covered with tiny pink roses (pic. # 9)...These lamps are a true treasure from the sea for an astute and lucky collector of German bathing beauties...No Reserve. Please don't hesitate to E-Mail with any questions. As always, Paypal, money orders and personal checks are acceptable methods of payment for this and all my other E-Bay items. Thanks and Good Luck. Insurance required on the lamps, please... Please see that I have a less-than-perfect feedback rating. Unfortunately, my house was destroyed by fire on October 21st, and I was badly injured in the accident. I was unable to complete many E-Bay transactions. Rest assured that i am working hard to restore my reputation and to satisfy my customers--both new and old. Please do not be afraid to bid on my merchandise. Customer service is my greatest concern.
