Gilt Bronze Egypt Arch Cariatides Clock Empire c1810 NRThis very fine gilt bronze “Retour d’Egypt” Clock is made in France around 1810, at the beginning of the French Empire period. The bowed arch with fine engraved palmettes is carried by two woman stylized cariatides. Between the heads and the feet life trees with buds. Both women faces with twisted hair. The pendulum with gilt bronze sunburst bob with central face. The base with acantus/olives rim and 4 feet. White porcelain enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and fine gilt early hands. Fine ciselated dial ring with engraved palmettes. Early French clockwork with pendulum on silk suspension, 8 days going work, striking the 1/1 and ½ hours on a silvered bell. Good running and striking condition. Measurements : base 9" x 3.25", high 13.5”, dial diam. 4.75” incl. the dial ring. All over in fine condition.
