From the Private Collection of a Roman Monsignore: BEAUTIFUL GILT WOOD RELIQUARY WITH A RELIC OF ST. ANNE, MOTHER OF OUR LADY, w. DOCUMENT Rome, 1776 From the private collection of a Roman Monsignore who passed down in September 2008: A beautiful late 18th century gilt wood altar reliquary, ca. 14 inches in height. This is an elegant, beautiful piece in excellent condition - originally part of a "couple", we also offer the counterpart with a relic of the True Cross. Inside of the this wonderful piece is the original theca, surrounded by filigree silverwork - a masterpiece of the Roman silversmiths of the 18th century. In the center, in an oval-shaped theca, behind crystal glass, surrounded by "paperoles" decoration is the original relic of St. Anne, Mother of Our Lady, Grandmother of Our Lord The theca was sealed with the intact threads by the Domestic Prelate and Assistant of His Holiness, Pope Pius VI, Msgr. Horatius Mattheius, Archbishop of Colossa (a Roman Curia Archbishop and Canon of the Basilica S. Mary Major) . The reliquary comes with the original document issued by Archbishop Mattheius on June 16, 1776, describing the relic as "extracted from authentic relics of St. Anna, Mother of the Blessed Virgin (Mary), which were collected in a filigree silver theca of oval shape" and allows the public veneration of this read more
