Known for limited production and elegant almost regal visual appeal. Medallion wares are eagerly sought by collectors. Gorham, Tiffany and several of the smaller American firms offered both flat and hollow portrait silver. From the same collection, near identical, and monogrammed the same as the fully hallmarked Gorham medallion pieces already listed, we believe this butter knife from Gorham as well. The knife with elegant, alternate shaded panelled oval cap handle. Richly detailed ancient Greek inspired young male profile, on pebbled ground. Thick, oval picture frame. Elaborate bright cut engraved ribbon, leaf and vine decoration. Continuing to off-set rounded blade. Gothic "SMM" to one side only.
