I am pleased to list an exceptional and rare Gorham Chalice for your consideration. This is one of Gorham's earlier creations (about 1890) with a beautiful gothic theme that flows from the outer cup to the fine node and excellent base. The base shows six embossed reliefs of the life of Christ. The Annunciation, Nativity, Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension are elegantly depicted along the base. On the underside of the piece is an inscription which I cannot make out clearly but the date indicates the chalice was presented on June 28,1914, which was the eve of WWI. The word sterling appears stamped on the underside with the number 2353. The chalice stands at 9.5" high, the base is 6.5" in diameter and the cup measures just under 4" in diameter. The chalice still has its original gold plating which makes it look like new. The chalice weighs about 26 ounces which makes this a solid silver work of art. The Gorham chalice is ideal for a chapel, church or ordination gift for a new priest. T is no paten with this offer. Winner pays shipping/handling and insurance.
