This auction is for a very uncommon seminal work on furniture design. It is Part 2 of an earlier work, also available from this seller. The book is in good condition. The binding is intact, no separation. T is scattered foxing on many of the pages. T is an 1880 dedication to a previous owner on a blank page before the title page. T is no other writing in the book. Talbert, Bruce James (1838-1881), architect and designer Trained initially as a carver and also as an architect Talbert is best known as a decorator and furniture designer. In 1868 (though dated 1867) he published his first and most influential book, Gothic Forms Applied to Furniture, Metal Work and Decoration for Domestic Purposes. This work championed the structural honesty of the Reformed Gothic style, with its decorative vocabulary of carved chevrons, inlaid or pierced quatrefoil motifs and chamfered edges.
