This listing is for the Grateful Dead Complete Europe 1972 Limited Edition Box Set. This sold out set consists of 22 fully remastered CDs in custom CD cases, tons of photos and other swag, a customs box carrying case and a numbered COA (this set is #35XX / 7200; please see the picture below). This set has only been removed from the shipping box to take the picture below and all CDs are of course unplayed. The Dead were at the top of their game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums - Workingman's Dead , American Beauty , and the live Grateful Dead ("Skull & Roses"). It had been a year since the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been broken in as the group's exceptional pianist, and the Europe '72 tour was the first to feature Donna Godchaux as a member of the touring band. Some say it was the greatest tour the Dead ever played. Over the years, a few compilations have been issued from this exceptional tour, but only one full show has been released... Until now. We're extremely excited to announce the release of theEurope '72 The Complete Box Set due this September, 2011. The limited-edition, individually-numbered comprehensive collection will feature more than 60 discs and 70 hours of music - every single note recorded on the Europe '72 tour. Each disc will be mixed and mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman, primary mixer of Dead archival multi-track material, and two-time Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser. Every show will include its own liner notes by top Dead scholars (including David Gans, Steve Silberman, Blair Jackson and Nicholas Meriwether) and concert-goers, as well as many never-before-seen photos. This magnificent, unprecedented collection will also feature memorabilia and ephemera from the tour, and a coffee table-worthy book with a comprehensive tour essay by Blair Jackson and hundreds of photos. This unprecedented release will be limited to orders placed, with a maximum of 7,200 boxes produced.There was a ton of new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 and during the spring of ’72, including“Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “Mexicali Blues,” “Comes A Time,” “Ramble On Rose,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Looks Like Rain” and Pigpen’s “Chinatown Shuffle,” “The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion)” and “Mr. Charlie.” (Sadly, this was Pigpen’s final tour.)
