21 1/4" Wide 13 1/2" High 2 lbs. 9 oz. Nice example of a late 18th early 19th century forged iron rack, complete with a great decorative elements. All blacksmith wrought, circa 1790-1820, found in New Hampshire and likely of English or New England origin. A piece such as this would have been hung on an interior wall of an early home, each of the formed hooks would have served to support the loops of various cooking utensil such as spoons, skimmers, spatulas and roasting forks, while also allowing the piece to function as a game or herb rack, lighting device holder, etc. Take a moment to You'll see one of the most striking elements of this particular rack are the three individual up springing elements under an arched top formation. There is some very slight pitting and oxidation as would be expected from age, else solid condition with a great presentation. Just a great early piece that would be a perfect accent to any period country estate. Offered for a period of one week with no reserve. Thanks for visiting The Country Tin and be sure to check back with us as we offer weekly Sunday night listings of Early American metalware, pottery, folk art and other country furnishings.
