1967 NFL ICE BOWL NFL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME On December 31, 1967, on the "frozen tundra" of Lambeau field, before 50,861 fans, the 9-4-1 Green Bay Packers defeated the 9-5 Dallas Cowboys 21-17 to claim the 1967 NFL Championship , and the right to face the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II. "ICE BOWL" The wind chill during this game was -48 degrees F. One spectator DIED of exposure. Seven band members were taken to the hospital with hypothermia. Referees could not use their whistles as they froze to their lips. Many players suffered frost bite. During the Green Bay Packer final game winning drive, trailing 17-14, the wind chill was -70 degrees F. With 16 seconds left in the game, on the Cowboy's one foot line, , and with no time outs, Bart Starr conferred with Vince Lombardi and suggested a QB wedge.
