Baker was a Cumberland Presbyterian minsiter in the Decatur, Illinois area. He was also chaplain of the 116th Illinois Regiment during the Civil War, seeing action in the western theater (Chickasaw Bayou, Arkansas Post, Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge and elsewhere). Rev.
