Interesting, historical woven silk postcard woven by W.H. Grant of Coventry as a souvenir of the Franco-British Exhibition of 1908 depicting the Court of Honour. Excellent quality silk and highly detailed. One of the Grant silk cards listed this week (do have a look at the others) William Henry Grant was a competitor of Thomas Stevens (of Stevengraph fame) in Coventry. There is good evidence that he trained under Stevens before setting up on his own. Grant attended many exhibitions where a portable loom would produce a variety of silk weavings that could be bought by the visitors. In fact, Grant did not seem to sell through bookshops and stationers like Stevens did so the cards are generally rarer. Date: 1908 (these were produced at the exhibition) Condition - Silk is very good and the card mount is clean. Some mild grubbiness to card edge and edge wear. Plain back - slightly larger than postcard size. No writing. Postage and packing (plastic card protective envelope and stiffener envelope) : UK £1.00 Europe £1.50 Rest of World £2.00 (insurance, if required will be extra). Any other cards sent at the same time will be post free regardless of destination. For posting to Italy, items must be insured (at additional cost).
