Hailwood Akroyd Miners lamp these miners lamps were made from 1927 under the title Hailwood & Ackroyd Ltd. This is a heavy, beautifully machined solid brass, iron, and blue glass lamp. The glass chimney is intact and has etched on the blue glass all British and the Nos 5A--7 cannot read it all see photo; the fuel reservoir is in good condition with wick raising wire, and wick.The brass plate in the middle of the lamp is a bit faded,has the No 101 on it,on the brass just below the glass is stamped 867,on the brass tank as seen in photo British Made and a tiny stamp of a miners lamp and the letters A-B,there is a No LOC 296.Someone has stamped 101 on it.A couple of the columns are slightly bowed,nothing serious.It measure`s 10 1/2ins high.Below is some information i found on the Internet.Buyer Pays Postage.No Buy It Now. After 1927 the company became known as Hailwood & Ackroyd,The lamps with blue glasses were much in demand and sold for 3/6d during WW2, It was found that a dim blue glass cannot be spotted from 2000ft by German bombers, these lamps were used by ARP to warn of unexploded bombs and gas leaks and can be seen in the dark and to keep away.so many of these Davy lamps were in demand during WW2.
