When the fruit ripens, the lower part splits open and the netri tos(nut) fall to the ground. The unripe nuts are good to eat. But when they mature, they become hard and white, the material take dye well and be polished. Its ovel shaped fruits are called Tagua nuts. Characteristics of the Tagua nut As all the nuts have natural small openings, it sometimes happens that the carved piece come with small openings.
