This is a sensational Chinese hand-painted hand-scroll titled "Seven Sages in a Bamboo Grove" with signature and seal after the famous Qing Dynasty artist, Wang Chong-Jian. Accompanying the painting, in the scroll, is extensive notation in the form of three calligraphed colophons; the title calligraphy being by hand, and the two others being woodblock printed. T are numerous signatures and seals; one with seals indicating Prince Cheng Qin, the 11th son of Emperor Qian Long, and also a famous calligrapher; another by Li Zong-Han, residing in Linchuan, who relates how he collected the painting; a third indicating title, "A Painting of Seven Sages in a Bamboo Grove", dated, "May, Jia Qing the 4th Year" (1799), "by Chen Xi-Zu".Excellent condition as pictured, with some wear commensurate with viewing and very minor staining in one area. High quality materials are used throughout, including gorgeous interior silk and brocade cover, and a beautiful celadon jade scroll weight.Total length is well over 20 feet with the title calligraphy section measuring 24 inches, the two calligraphed colophons totaling 30 inches, and the painting itself measuring 10 feet 4 inches.
