The mask is made of cast iron and I was told its age is from the 1960's. The condition is very good even thought there are some marks of rust on the face. The backside,there are holes for strings. So, you can hang it up on your wall. A Hannya mask is a type of Japanese mask used in "Noh"-classical Japanese dance theatre that has been performed since the 14th century. All actors in a Noh play are male and wear masks to represent each character. The hannya mask is a type of ONRYO (mythological spirit, ghost) mask. The Hannya mask is solely for female characters who have been wronged by their loved one or husband. Hannya are considered by many to be the most recognizable of Noh masks.
