Herod was paranoid and ordered many of his family members killed, prompting Augustus to say "it is better to be Herod's pig than his son," referring to the Jewish ban on eating pork. Herod I, 40-4 BC, bronze prutah of 14.6 mm, 1.62 grams. Obverse: Anchor "of King Herod" in Greek. Reverse: Two cornucopias, caduceus between them. Reference: Hendin 1188 (4th ed. 500).
