For sale today is a New Hobby Master Grumman F-4F Wildcat, in 1:48 scale flown by Major General Marion Carl.Early in the Pacific War in WWII the Grumman F-4F Wildcat was the best fighter aircraft the U.S. had but was out performed by the Japanese Zero. The Wildcat's folding wings allowed for a greater number of aircraft that could be carried but added extra weight and reduced the aircraft performance. New features such as self-sealing fuel tanks, heavy armor made up for the Wildcat's lesser performance. By the end of WWII the F-4F had flown approximately 15,500 sorties with a kill ratio of 6.9 victories to 1.Major General Marion Eugene Carl was a World War II fighter ace , record-setting test pilot , and Naval Aviator . He was deployed to and flew fighter missions at Midway, the Solomon Islands and Guadalcanal. While deployed to Guadalcanal, he was shot down and was missing for 5 days before returning. Marion Carl became the USMC's first ace with 3 victories occurring later in September 1942. Carl ended the war with 18.5 victories, the USMC's seventh ranking ace.He went on to become a test pilot and continued flying in missions in Vietnam. Carl was killed in retirement when coming home one evening to find a robber pointing a gun at his wife, he attacked the thief and was killed.Let me know if you have any questions or would like
