The description that came with the carving reads as follows:" Mongwa - The Great Horned Owl" Kachina carved from cottonwood root by Hopi carver, Ken Shupla. Mongwa is a Kachina guard. He is also a hunter Kachina". The Hopi tribe is a sovereign nation located in North Eastern Arizona. The Hopi are widely known for their spirituality and beliefs routed in Animism. They believe in powerful ancestral spirits or deities called Kachinas.When I bought my home here in Henderson Nevada I wanted to decorate with Southwest style furniture and decorations. I found a company out of Flagstaff Arizona who held traveling shows featuring a very large amount of rugs and weaving's, pottery, jewelry and many other tribal items from many Reservations all over the United States. I didn't know anything about Kachina Dolls but was intrigued by them. I bought several about 18 years ago and now that I have gotten much older it is time to let someone else enjoy them as I have over the years. I have or will have other Kachina Dolls listed here on E-Bay. You can view them by This Kachina measures approximately 11.5 inches tall with the base and the doll measures approximately 10.5 inches tall. The base measures approximately 4.5 inches across.
