PACK OF 3 (ONE MAGNET SHOWN IN PHOTO AND ALSO SHOWN FITTED IN LOCO, YOU WILL RECEIVE THREE) NEODYMIUM MAGNET - DIRECT REPLACEMENT FOR HORNBY DUBLO AND WRENN UPRIGHT MOTOR USED IN THE DUCHESS/CITY, A4 AND TANK ENGINES (please read second paragraph). THE CHEAP AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTION YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. WHY IS MY LOCO SO SLOW ? Having bought a new loco for your Hornby Dublo layout you find that it moves slowly and can't pull for toffee. So you clean it and oil it (sparingly) and it is still sluggish ! (I know because I have been there !). So what next ? The traditional way is to send it off to a specialist to have the armature rewound and the motor re-magnetised - all at great cost. Why not try a new neo magnet ? The problem is that the old magnet has deteriorated in the 40 or more years of its life - and may have had its pole pieces pulled away destroying its strength even further. It is claimed that neo magnets are 10 times stronger than the old ones - they are very hard to pull apart and fly together from great distances (beware, they can shatter or pinch your skin!). Increasing the magnetic field not only makes the motor go faster and have more torque but also reduces the power consumption - thus reducing the risk of overheating and motor burnout. I have neo magnets fitted to all my engines now and the difference is amazing. WILL THIS MAGNET FIT MY LOCO ? This particular magnet fits between the pole pieces of the Dublo and Wrenn Tanks, A4s and Duchesses (all the upright motors) - it is a rod magnet that is designed to be easy to install and remove. Fits all the locos which have a motor that looks like the one pictured, e.g.- Duchess of Atholl, Duchess of Montrose, Sir Nigel Gresley, Mallard, Silver King, City of London, City of Liverpool, 4MT tank (2-6-4) and N2 tank (0-6-2)(not Wrenn), and similar types - all the motors that have a vertical armature, the 'upright' motors. WHAT MOTORS IT WILL NOT FIT ! R1 tanks, 8Fs and Castles usually need a rectangular magnet with a groove to accomodate the screw. Ringfield motors, as in the CoCo, CoBo, shunter, emu, and Westcountry, take a ring shaped magnet. It does not have a hole drilled through the middle, so it is not suitable for Triang type motors. I do not have any magnets other than this type and the 3/8" cube for the BoBo diesel - and certainly this will not replace a ringfield 'doughnut' - sorry. Also will not replace the 'horseshoe' magnet fitted in very early Dublo locos. If in doubt, compare your motor with the one pictured. Why not try one now and be amazed by the enhanced performance ? Please see my other listings for a magnet and tyres to fit the Class 20 BoBo. HOW DO I REPLACE THE MAGNET ? Fitting in an upright motor is easy - remove the body from the chassis, unscrew the large nut and bolt holding the pole pieces, lever out the old magnet and replace with the new neo magnet, re-attach the pole pieces and tighten screw - test run to make sure the magnet is the right way round and reassemble - if the loco moves in the opposite direction to that expected simply remove the magnet and replace the other way round. Simple as that ! As the magnet is designed to fit a wide range of models there may be a small gap left of up to 1mm, this does not affect performance and may be left clear. Alternatively, you may wish to insert a small washer or similar into the gap, but I never bother with this. I would recommend that you keep the old magnets in case you wish to sell the loco - some collectors may prefer the originals. NOW THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS !
