is a very rare 1918 top marked 9 3/8" by 6 ½" ornate and multi-colored china oval platter for "The Angelus Hotel" that was located in Los Angeles California. The Angelus was located at the corner of Fourth and Spring Streets. I believe it was built in 1901 and was owned by John W. Hunt. It was an impressive twin seven storied hotel that had streetcar service to front of the hotel and provided it's guest with "solid comfort, every bed with box springs and hair mattresses." The hotel was one of the most prestigious hotels in the Bunker Hill area, which you can see this from just looking at how wonderful this china platter looks and at the cost involved in it's manufacture by OPCO - Syracuse China. But as time went on, the 1950's did not prosper so well for the area and by the 1960's, the hotel was demolished in the wake of the urban renewal for the Los Angeles area. The platter features a wonderful full-colored logo of a farmer and his wife praying over their crop that they have just planted. In the image are crop tools, a wheel barrel, and a view of the Pacific Ocean in the foreground. The outer boarder is done in the most awesome looking olive green and maroon ivy and flowers that really add to the platter's character. The platter has no cracks, no chips, and is in excellent condition with only light usage. The platter was made in read more
