This Large Howard Pierce Frog Bank comes from a significant Howard Pierce collection that has been cabinet kept for many years. It exhibits Howard Pierce's incredible artistic talent and ability to capture the essence of his subjects through ceramic art. Howard Pierce has truly captured the cute charm of the frog in this piece. He was also know for his incredible glaze talent. The wonderful glaze on this frog bank is a soft, rich green with dark glaze accents throughout and soft yellow on the underbelly, all of which bring this piece to life (the first photo captures the rich green hue best). Howard Pierce collectors know Howard Pierce Banks are rare, but this great piece stands on its own as a wonderful, charming, large frog with a lot of character. This piece has a large presence to it. Howard Pierce was a highly talented artist and a one-man studio potter who started his work in the 1940's and continued up until his death in 1994. He is recognized as one of the greats having worked with William Manker, and his work strongly influenced California Pottery.
