The Ultimate Brown Transferware Pitcher!! Aesthetic Period - late 1800s - Pomegranate Motif is perfect for the holidays! A beautifully potted example of fine Staffordshire ironstone, by Challinor & Mayer, a firm renowned for its detailed, inventive motifs and classic shapes. C&M did not produce as much transferware as some of the other Staffordshire potters, and large examples such as this pitcher are extremely rare. The pitcher is beautifully proportioned and has a nice, hefty weight. Glossy, smooth white glaze with no crazing, and lavishly decorated with detailed pomegranates , branches and leaves. The neck of the pitcher repeats the leaf motif on a smaller scale, against a geometric, "woven-look" background interspersed with half-rounds of daisies. The handle has a thumbrest and features flowers down its spine. This pitcher embodies the Aesthetic Period's fascination with Nature read more
