OUTSTANDING ! You're looking at 3/4 (all I could get in the pic) of a stunningly and refreshingly graphic "Baskets" quilt from the early 1960's, African-American, never used; comprised of 12 "baskets" in mix of 1930's cotton fabrics, backing is part the printed fabric you see as binding, and part solid red. (Some of the binding is also the solid red.) The red against orange of this quilt makes for a striking combination. Stitchery is all by hand, is not educated but is well-done and perfectly acceptable for a folk-art quilt of this sort. Nothing to be forgiven here. Measures 84" x 101", will work fine for a double or queen-size bed, and is from a South Carolina coastal county, near Charleston. I would call the quilt an expression of joy and exuberance, not unlike Beethoven's famous first four notes of his 5th Symphony ! Near perfect condition, no staining or damage that I could find, and thank you for looking at a superior bit of folk art from the American South.
