A rare pair of cups and saucers from the Illy Collection. On the 13th of March 2002, illy released a set by Michelangelo Pistoletto (born in Biella in 1933). In 1994 Pistoletto founded Progetto Arte (Project Art) which has become in Biella the seat of the Pistoletto Foundation. In Cittadelarte and through UNIDEE artists are inspired to produce responsible change in society through ideas and creative projects. And that's the idea that you find in this set. The espresso cups and saucers become a rotating sextet of "slices of a mirror", that reflect every thing or person that approaches them, thus becoming places for meeting and regrouping. Pistoletto's cups are decorated with a platinum reflective ray on both the saucer and the cup, creating a striking multi-image effect of two mirrors facing each other. Each of the six cups features a wedge of platinum color on a different section the cup. The cups were released in three different kits (A, B and C), and these cups are from Kit C. I bought these two cups in Italy this summer from a lady who owns a ceramic shop and used to sell Illy cups but now sells Thun. When I mentioned my interest in Illy, she brought these out of her warehouse w they had been sitting for four years in Styrofoam packaging. They have never been used and are in beautiful condition.
