This is a beautifully done larger older Imperial Cicada with gold guilt legs and antennas. The cloisonne work is incredible. No junk !! Fabulous old cloisonne!! This is not a cheap body used in "new" cloisonne or antique reproductions, the body under the cloisonne is bronze !! The Cricket comes with a custom after market stand. In Chinese the Cicada is the emblem of immortality and resurrection. The Cicada was carved of jade and place in a the mouth of dead for burial. During the summer in China , the love song of the Cicada can be heard. The love song of the Cicada has been appreciated for thousands of years and is the base for the musical compositions. The defined art, rich colors, materials, and process are characteristics of the Imperial Cloisonné studio. Each item is individually made and no two alike. The cicada was old when shipped from China in the early 1980's and has been safely stored in my warehouse since. Never been used and is in mint condition! The secrets of color and application, the Master artisans, and the finest materials belonged exclusively to Imperial workshops. The masters of Imperial Cloisonné produced the finest detailed and skilled cloisonné. Imperial Cloisonné is no longer. The masters of the art have disappeared.
