This is an important and BEAUTIFUL W. & A.K. Johnston International Globe, circa 1915. Made by famous Edinburg cartographers, W. & A.K. Johnston Ltd., these globes were distributed in the U.S by the A.J. Nystrom Company of Chicago, sole US agents for Johnston. Founded by Sir William Johnston (1802-1888), the fine antique globes by his firm are among the most highly sought after in the world. The globe offered is a rare and fine example. The globe is a 12 inch plaster orb with oceans in olive green with time dial at North Pole. Ocean currents and isothermal lines emphasized by the equator. International Date Line is in red. T are some small blemishes, a shallow chip in the North Pacific Ocean (just smaller than a dime in size) and typical age darkening. The mount is comprised of a full-ring cast iron meridian mounted in a conforming cradle. This is raised on a bronze three leg table stand with claw feet and raised floral motifs. This is an important and desireable globe for the collector and a simply breath-taking piece; I couldn't get photos good enough to do it justice. The David Rumsey Museum collection has a similar globe (1890) which you can reference for additional info: /maps2000.html Winner pays shipping of $15. Insurance optional.
