This is an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE....EXTREMELY RARE....19th century HAND MADE RAG DOLL OF AN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR SOLDIER! I purchased this piece at an auction where it was described as a "Rag doll of a Civil War Tiger Rifle Soldier" That's the only information I had. Then after having it for some time, I noticed that the stuffing was blue and white striped, much like the Tiger Rifle Uniform pants. I wondered if perhaps this was stuffed with fragments of an actual uniform. Without causing any destruction to the piece, I looked inside to remove some of the stuffing and noticed a piece of cardboard buried inside the stuffing. I pulled it out to discover a photograph of a young man. On the back of the photo is the name, "Seymour"? I then discovered a lock of hair, and lastly a Louisiana $5 bill dated March 10th 1863. I don't know if there are any other items inside the stuffing of the doll because I did not want to destroy the integrity of the doll. He is stuffed VERY SOLIDLY with torn up blue and white striped material that looks like the uniform pants of a Louisiana Tiger Rifle soldier. The doll itself is FANTASIC...AN INCREDIBLE PIECE OF 19th Century FOLK ART SECOND TO NONE! His face is WONDERFUL! He has blue eyes, and red lips. He wears a red uniform top with two rows of buttons. a belt, blue pants and a white boots. He has some EARLY read more
