Mata Ortiz is a small town in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico and it is w Juan Quezada lived since he was a young boy. Juan Quezada is the originator of this artistic movement called New Casas Grandes or Mata Ortiz's Pottery. All started when Juan found small pottery pieces of the almost unknown Paquime or Casas Grandes Culture. About 15 miles from Mata Ortiz, the ruins of the great Paquime city are found. The Paquime Culture had flourished between about 1000 and 1400. Without any technology, Juan "recreated the entire ceramic technology from clay preparation to firing, using only the sherds to guide him" with his pottery innovation, Juan began an artistic read more
