An Inuit Doll by Steiff, 1910 Some eskimo-dolls have not the luck to outlast the times in a cabinet, but they have to survive wind and weather, ice and rain, bugs and kids. No wonder that this little, 11 inch (28cm) tall Steiff eskimo is glad, when this winter – probably the hundredth since he was born in the 1910s – has been over for this year. Especially since he has lost his warm hood anywhen and his mohair covering has got thinnings here and there (but a plenty at his back) over the years. Thank goodness, at least he owns still all of his black (mo-)hair! One winter season was really bitterly cold, so his tiny felten ears were frozen off nearly completely and also his left cheek and the left foot showed frostbites, which had to be replaced with healthy felt.
