You are considering a pair of original Black Americana Lawn Jockey bookends on lead bases. The jockeys, believed to be circa 1940, are in great condition for age. There is extremely minimal loss to the polychrome finish on the jockeys themselves with the bases showing more loss to the painted finish, as pictured. The paint is vibrant with slight yellowing to the jodhpurs on each. Obviously hand painted they show differing character in their facial expressions. The measure just over 10 1/4" tall x 4 1/2" wide from elbow to ring and the bases measure 3 1/4" wide x 1" tall. Each one measures approximately 4 lbs. or 8 lbs. together.
