Double your traffic. Ischia Isola olim Aenaria . Description: Striking and beautifully detailed copper engraved bird's-eye chart of Ischia. Map showns also the coast of Campania and Procida Island. Map is filled with a lot of topographical details as well as cities, fortresses, rivers, harbours, woods, etc. Map fashioned with a decorative title cartouche and a cartouche including dedication . Dimension: Paper size approx.: cm 53,3 x 39,6 Condition: Strong and dark impression on good paper. Paper with chains and wiremarks. Uncolored as issued. Wide margins. Paper with browning. Cartographer: Giovanni Antonio Magini was born in Padua in 1555, and devoted himself to astronomical studies very early, in 1588 he was hired by the Senate of Bologna to the chair of Astronomy at the university, preferred even to Galileo Galilei. The personal friendship with the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo Gonzaga Magini allowed to get by princes and rulers of the various governments of the peninsula the maps necessary for the implementation of the Charter of the then Italian regions. Magini map of the great effort was given to light posthumously due to the untimely death in 1617 by his son Fabio, who in 1620 published in Bologna Atlas "Italy". Consisting of a short text of only 24 cards, the work is accompanied by 61 maps of the peninsula, and is the first example of the Italian Atlantic. Although published posthumously, the work is full of hand Magini, who began the construction of the cards in 1594 or so, giving birth to the first paper in 1595 on the territory of Bologna. All cards were then printed before 1620, in their interim drafts, which were later corrected and updated for the final edition. These tests are rare, sometimes available on the market, and then present substantial differences with those included in the atlas. For the realization of the plates Magini uses two of the most famous engravers of the period, the Belgian and English Arnorldo Arnold Benjamin Wright. As we shall see in the analysis of individual cards, they are derived from different sources, which is published novel, is therefore the product of a personal work of comparison and coordination of screening, which is to give the paper the same character and the value of a original product. The importance of this work Magini is notable, as well as the influence on the cartography of the peninsula for the next two centuries.
