MONTESSORI MONEY This is the only bank note in the world to portray the great Educational Genius Maria Montessori. This high denomination 1000 Lire beauty was issued by the Nation of Italy to memorialize Montessori on the 120th Anniversary of her birth in 1990, and has become very scarce in uncirculated condition. What a beautiful bill it is!! A superb sepia tone portrait of Montessori appears on the front of the note at the right, her smile exuding all the warmth, empathy and wisdom she was known for. She appears again in a large watermark on the left! At the center, intricate multi-color graphics frame the striking burgundy - umber Great Seal of Italy depicting a winged lion and 3 crosses. The reverse is no less impressive, depicting a girl and boy immersed in writing or drawing. They seem illuminated in the timeless glow of childhood and innocence against a joyous tapestry of intricate pastel patterns. While most currency depicts political or military figures, this one puts forward the hope and promise of young people allowed to freely express themselves!! The only thing as impressive as this bill's motif, design and denomination is its condition - it remains in Choice to Gem Uncirculated condition!! Not one fold, split, wrinkle, tear, thin spot, pen mark, cut in margin, stain or other imperfection!! A beautiful "educational" read more
