Up for bid is a Jackson Lee Nesbitt (1913-2008) lithograph entitled "The Matthew W. Johnston Family" and shows the family during Sunday Worship. It is a very fine image as it is #18/250. In Mr. Nesbitt's words: "The woman in this picture worked for my mother back in Oklahoma and the child is her daughter. The man was a model often used at the Kansas City Art Institute. Thomas Hart Benton used him in his lithograph; Instruction. I made a drawing in 1939 and a painting in 1942 which won a prize at the Midwestern Art Exposition that year. I also painted the woman by herself as a gift to my mother. When I was designing the picture I needed something to turn the right corner so I took the drapes down and got Elaine to model the shawl for me. The shawl turned out to be the hardest part of making the lithograph. I had to painstakingly dig out the white parts and draw in the dark areas, all the while maintaining the look of a draped object".Mr. Nesbitt studied at the Kansas City Art Institute with Thomas Hart Benton. Mr. Benton considered him one of his finest students. His work is in many public collections worldwide. The lithograph sight size is 12 7/16" x 9 7/16". The custom frame measures 23" x 18 3/4". Included is The Graphic Work booklet that includes the information on this lithograph plus pictures and descriptions of Mr. Nesbitt's read more
