This old Japanese figurine is of a lady in kimono playing the lute. The figure is made of a hard wood, possible teak, and legal pre-ban elephant ivory. The ivory was used for the face, hands, feet and inlays on the kimono. The designs on the ivory inlays have been engraved and then colored much like scrimshaw is done except instead of ink a gold and silver gilt was used. The piece is signed but it looks very light because it paint is worn off. With magnifacation you can see that the signature is also etched into the would. The stature is very well done and would look beautiful in your collection. The lady stands 4-7/8" tall and is 2-1/4" wide. This wood and ivory lady lute player wearing a kimono is fresh from the personal collection of Vince Vento, a Californian well known to some of Hollywood's rich and famous collectors, who treasure the pieces that they have acquired from him.
