ITEM DESCRIPTION Wonderful tea cups by Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Tatsuzo,was born in 1919-2007 in Tokyo. He studied ceramics at Tokyo Institute of Technology before apprenticing with Hamada Shoji in Mashiko, establishing his own kiln in 1954. In 1996 he was designated a Living National Treasure. Tatsuzo’s works are highly acclaimed in Japan and around the world for enhancing both the artistic quality of mingei ceramics and their value as craft ”.
