BEAUTIFUL HAND CARVED JAPANESE NOH MASK OF KARUSUTENGU Tengu is known as an imaginary mountain animal (goblin) that has wings and flies freely around in the sky. The eyes have brass accents and the hair is horse. This handcarved mask retails for $499.00. The mask is approx. 8.75" x 6.75" and is in excellent condition. Noh Mask Making is an 8 stage process 1. The general shape is roughly cut out of wood. 2. Then the features of the mask are roughed out. 3. The details are then carved out using finer chisels. Fine sandpaper is used to smooth the entire surface of the mask. 4. Brass eyes & teeth are applied 5. A Japenese whitewash called gofun is applied to the entire front, as a base coat. 6. Six applications of skin color are applied to the entire face. 7. Gold paint is applied to areas such as horns & non brass teeth. 8.
