JAVANESE ROD PUPPET - JAVA, INDONESIA JAVANESE ROD PUPPET - JAVA, INDONESIA As the puppeteer manipulates the figures, his head is in full view of the audience. He introduces the story and announces the puppets as they appear on stage. Good characters approach from the right, bad ones from the left. Each character has its unique voice and way of moving. Wood, cloth, and pigments. Approximately 23" tall. This puppet is from the mid 20th century. It is dressed and painted beautifully. I have it mounted in a sand filled bottle which is not included. From the collection of Nicole Shoening who operated an ethnic arts business in Los Angeles named "Weird and Wonderful" until she retired in 1981. BBx08 Buyer to pay S/H and Insurance.
