NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN SIGNED ART JEMEZ RED MELON SWIRL VASE BY: MARCELLA YEPA This beautiful red melon swirl vase was signed by well known Native American Indian artist, Marcella Yepa. This Jemez Pueblo pottery is elegant Native American artwork with an attractive stone polish and smooth texture. The pottery measures approximately 3.25" tall x about 2.25" diameter. The vase is about 1" diameter at the base and the hole in the top is about .75" diameter. This melon style artwork features red polished ribs that swirl around the vase diagnolly. Marcella stone polishes her redware pottery and gathers natural clay from the Jemez Pueblo of New Mexico. She hand coils and sculpts her forms and fires her pottery outdoors with cedar chips. This is an impressive piece of artwork without any chips or cracks. The skilled Jemez Pueblo artist has been creating since 1976. Marcella Yepa is the daughter of Dorene and Salvador Yepa. The artist was taught by her Grandmother, Felipita Yepa and by Alvina Yepa. The artist's work has been displayed at the Santo Domingo Arts & Craft Show and at Galleries such as Andrew Pueblo Pottery, Nizhoni, Kennedy Indian Arts, Bluff UT.
