Jesus Christ And Theotokos (Virgin Mary) Silver Greek Byzantine Orthodox IconAn exquisite silver Greek Orthodox icon of Theotokos Glykophilousa depicting the Virgin Mary caressing her son, so that they appear to be kissing. Virgin Mary appears sad, seemingly contemplating his coming Passion. The representation from the Cretan School of the 17th Century shows very pronounced characteristics of the Virgin Mother.Wonderful religious icon. The icon is made with true iconography colors and it is a copy of a Byzantine icon.The tradition started in the early Orthodox years where the hand painted icons started to be covered with Silver or Copper material giving a unique figure in the Holy icon. According to tradition that started not as a decorative habit or to look better but as a tama in Greek, a gift to His Name.
