THIS PLAYBILL HAS BEEN AUTHENTICALLY HAND SIGNED BY JIMMY STEWART.............. Playbill-"Harvey"-July 28,1947-6 1/2" X 9"-40 pages. This vintage Playbill features the popular play-"Harvey" which was performed at the Forty-Eighth Street Theatre in 1947 in New York City. The play stars Jimmy Stewart and he is featured on the front cover in an original scene from the play.James Maitland "Jimmy" Stewart (May 20, 1908 - July 2, 1997) was an iconic, Academy Award-winning American film and stage actor, best known for his homebred screen persona. Over the course of his career, he starred in many films widely considered classics and was nominated for five Oscars, winning one in competition and one life achievement. Born in Indiana, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh, he first pursued a career as an architect before being drawn to the theater in college. His first success came as an actor on Broadway, before making his Hollywood debut in 1935. Stewart's career gained momentum after his well-received Frank Capra films, including his Academy Award nominated role in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Throughout his seven decades in Hollywood, Stewart cultivated a versatile career and recognized screen image in such classics as The Philadelphia Story, Harvey, and Vertigo. Along with fellow screen icon James Cagney, Stewart became so familiar to American audiences that he was most often referred to by them as "Jimmy" Stewart -- a billing never found on the credits of any of his films. Stewart left his mark on a wide range of film genres, including screwball comedies, westerns, and suspense thrillers. He worked for a number of renowned directors later in his career, most notably Alfred Hitchcock, John Ford, and Anthony Mann. He won many of the industry's highest honors and earned Lifetime Achievement awards from every major film organization. He died in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of classic performance, and is considered one of the finest actors of the "Golden Age of Hollywood." He was named the third Greatest Male Star of All Time by the American Film Institute. This vintage Playbill has the standard theatre-related articles plus "Who's Who In The Cast" with bio of Jimmy Stewart. The Playbill also features celebrity advertisements with photos (Bob Hope) and 40's era advertisements for restaurants,hotels and hot spots in the New York City Area. The Playbill has been autographed on the front cover by Jimmy Stewart in blue fountain pen.....BOTH PLAYBILL AND AUTOGRAPH ARE IN NICE CONDITION..............................................This autograph came from the Estate of Clark Gesner, the composer and lyricist whose defining success was the 1967 smash You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Mr. Gesner (1938-2002) began collecting in 1956 when he obtained the autograph of Clark Gable. From t, he built a collection of more than 10,000 autographs. He obtained the autographs in person, from autograph dealers , or by mail. Mr. Gesner was a well-known collector and shared his collection with Brooklyn Heights area churches, schools, senior citizen groups and other organizations. As such, this item does not come with a Certificate of Authenticity. .................. .Since it is impossible for me to obtain a Certificate of Authenticity from Mr.Gesner,I am including a photo of an acetate that he made for the Christmas of 1956.The label is in his own handwriting. The metal acetate is not for sale as part of this auction. I took the photo to add to the credibility of this item. .I have 20 more documents from his estate .
