Josiah Willard Gibbs Hall of Fame for Great Americans Medal, 1964 . Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University. By Stanley Martineau . Bronze; 76mm. Obverse : Portrait of Josiah Willard Gibbs, great American mathematical physicist and chemist. Reverse : The scientist sitting at the center of change; the cosmic processes interrupted and coerced into new and different directions, solar energy in parallel downward lines transformed into rising spheres . Struck by the Medallic Art Company, New York. Condition : Some small spots; ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. The Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University was establishedin 1900. Bronze portrait busts of the honorees were commissioned and placed in an open-aircolonnade, and starting in 1962 medals, struck by the Medallic Art Company, were issued to honor the inductees. The series was discontinued in 1975 with 94 medals having been issued.
