This is a beautiful and unusual looking engine, with its raised middle cab and Hokutosei livery of blue with a gold stripe and the shooting star logo on the side of the cab. These exact engines were used to haul sleeper trains between Hakodate and Sapporo; usually a pair would be used to haul the train. The DD51 class in general were used for both fast freight and passenger use, being more powerful than the D51 class and faster than the C62 steamers. The wheels are on three trucks, also known as the bo-bo-bo arrangement. This wheel arrangement tends to be a bit tricky if the track connections are rough they can derail. The couplers are the popular Rapido type. Because this is a lightly used engine, we tested it and found that it ran beautifully, as you'd expect from Kato. One of these has destination plates attatched, and the other has them in the box and little glue spots where they would have been attatched. Both have bidirectional head and tail lights that work well. We ask that you pay within seven days of purchase, or we will have to relist it.
