Shoots Soft Sponge Rubber Balls ~ Cast Iron Kilgore Fire Cracker Toy Mortar With 2 New Soft Sponge Rubber Balls Incapable of shooting a metal or hard projectile. Not a pyrotechnic device ~ Legal in all 50 States ~ Legal for Export ~ Mailable by USPS This cast iron Mortar is a one piece, 3 legged barrel. It is about 2 inches high. The rear undreside of the barrel says Fire Cracker Mortar, with the Circle K old Kilgore Logo in the center.See Photos Below To demonstrate it, many people insert a short section of ½ inch neoprene hose in the breach opening and blow into it, propelling the soft sponge rubber ball. Even with a firecracker and clay packing, it is incapable of shooting a metal or hard projectile. Only a proper sized soft sponge rubber ball makes an air tight seal in the tapered barrel necessary to capture the air that propels it. The short barrel length to diameter ratio ensures a low muzzle velocity of the soft rubber Ball and makes it incapable of shooting a metal ball, golf ball, etc. The way we sell it, As it is shown, it is a dormant cast iron toy. Do not attempt to convert this to propel the rubber ball by installing a firecracker in the breach opening, using modeling clay to close the breach hole. The neoprene hose works fine to eject the ball . A firecracker could damage your balls! T is an opening in the breach of the bottom of the barrel is originally designed to insert a standard 1 ½ inch fire cracker. The tapered barrel is designed to hold a 1 ¼ inch soft foam rubber ball. If you install a blow hose into the cannon breach hole in the back, push the ball down into the barrel (It fits snugly), You can blow the soft ball a substantial distance. The secret is the barrel is tapered and as the ball is pushed down into the barrel. it makes an air tight seal, so you don't have to blow hard to propel the soft rubber ball. This feature makes it incapable of shooting a metal or hard projectile.See Photos Below One good puff will pop the soft foam rubber ball up to 40 feet! It is all cast iron. It appears to never have been painted. We bought a small box of these and some Kilgore Fire Cracker Cannons, individually wrapped in old oil paper at an estate auction near Columbus Ohio.
