We sent it to reknown knife expert Bernie Levine for his expert opinion as to the value of this item. This bowie knife was appraised and carries a value of $6,000 "AS IS" . To learn more about Bernard Levine's experience as a knife expert go to The remaining history and description of this knife is from Bernard Levine;This knife was manufactured by Kingman & Hassam of Boston, Massachusetts. 1856-1860. Successor to Nathaniel Hunt, established 1840, became F. Hassam 1853. Frederick F. Hassam was the father of painter Frederick Childe Hassam (1859-1935). The knife is approximately 17 inches long overall. The blade is nearly full, lightly sharpened along the edge, with the very tip missing. Crown stag handle with checkering on top. Steel guard. Steel ferrule. Nickel silver burr anchoring the end of the tang. No sheath.Its main positive features are the large size, and the interesting handle.
