This LAGUNA PUEBLO POTTERY KACHINA was created by MICHAEL KANTEENA . His present work began to develop around 1990. Wishing to learn about his ancient roots, which he knew went back to New Mexico's Chaco Canyon (Anasazi Culture), he began collecting archaeological catalogues of pottery forms. Through extensive study, trial and error, and even consultation with archaeologists, he developed his pottery into remarkably close recreations of the Chacaon and Mesa Verde pottery. More recently his studies and work have expanded to Mimbres culture and ancient Mexican clay forms w human and animal effigies are common. Most recently he has begun to create Hopi figures and designs. Michael Kanteena creates traditional, handcoiled pottery. His pottery is fired two times. First, he kiln fires for strength and then he will refire outdoors to give his pieces their "ancient" look. He is a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Fine Art. This pottery KOSHARE KACHINA measures 7 1/4" x 2 1/2".It is 8 1/3" to the top of the husks. It is in MINT condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, etc. It is signed by MICHAEL KANTEENA.
