Art Deco tortoiseshell jewellery box - it has little squared feet, and a shaped bevelled lid. Inside has been lined in cream silk, but this has rotted away. Box measures 7.3 cm high, and 13 cm by 11 cm (3 inches high, 5.1/16 inch by 4.1/4 inches). It is in excellent condition, except for the join at the side left front, where the shell has separated in a narrow strip (see photo). Not readily noticeable though, and background could be touched up, darkened, to compensate. Lovely little early 20th century box, and quite large for a tortoiseshell item of this type.
