Lionel #1862 The GENERAL 4-4-0 custom steam engine, custom tender and U. S. Mail car and custom boxcar.& 2 cars This O-27 gauge # 1862 steam engine was classified by Lionel as The General, after a locomotive involved in one of the most thrilling stories from the American Civil War. This 1862 custom steam engine is an excellent model of a real-life American locomotive that was captured in Georgia by Yankee spies in 1862. Runs in forward and reverse. The 1862 Western & Atlantic Railroad steam locomotive has the following features: 4-4-0 wheel arrangement, gray painted boiler with a red cab and gold lettering, two position E-unit, wire handrailings, weight (for added traction) plus gold ornamental bell, red and gold ornamental whistle and black headlight. The Custom Tender is a replica of the actual period tender that carried wood for the wood burning steam engine. ALSO included is the Lionel # 1866 Western & Atlantic Railroad U. S. Mail car and a custom period boxcar. The story of The General is also included. The length of a 1862 steam engine and tender is approximately 16" long (cowcatcher to rear coupler).
